ELEVEN THOUSAND YEARS OF CERAMIC WORK APPLIED TO ARCHITECTURE

Until January 29, 2017 will be open in the Design Museum of Barcelona a unique exhibition with more than 300 pieces of ancient ceramics.

The exhibition, which takes place at the same time with the 47th Congress of the International Academy of Ceramics, begins by recalling the revolution brought by the brick as "sacred material" in the traditional culture, because of its living and plastic character, which comes from the earth where every human being returns to. Very old pieces, which have been used for construction in the various cultures of the Mediterranean, are shown. Among them we highlight the following: A terracotta pipeline of the 6th century BC used to provide water to the city of Athens and reused as a tomb of a child. Terracotta cones, with several inscriptions, placed between the walls or in the foundations of houses to perpetuate the name and culture of their builders. "Houses of the soul" used as domestic chapels or to contain the ashes and the spirit of the deceased in their graves. Many of the pieces are on loan from the Louvre Museum and other museums in Berlin, Athens, Rome, Oxford, Siena, Lisbon and the rest of Spain. Other pieces come from the Museum of Design itself and from private collections.
